A sample of clay soil of volume 1 x 10^-3 m^3 and mass 1.762kg, after being dried out in an oven had a mass of 1.368kg. The specific gravity of the particles was 2.69. Find, for the sample in its original condition, (a) the dry density; (b) the water content; (c) the void ratio and (d) the air voids(expressed as a percentage of the total voids).

Find also the water content and bulk density of a sample of this soil completely saturated, assuming that it has the same void ratio.
