Question
A sample of dry soil is uniformly mixed with 16% by mass of water and compacted in a cylindrical mould. The volume of wet soil is 1 x 10^-3 m^3 and its mass 1.60kg. If the specific gravity of the soil particles is 2.68, find the dry density, the void ratio and the degree of saturation.
Find also the water content necessary for complete saturation if the total volume remains the same.
